Baxter moves to No. 4 all-time with 14-2 PV;

Noah Lyles blasts 10.17/20.48 for 2 meet records

 

Saturday Highlights

- Rachel Baxter from Canyon CA jumped at US#1 height of 14-2 to win the pole vault. She broke the California all-time state best of 14-1.25 by Tori Anthony in 2007 and moved to No. 4 on the all-time list. Baxter took three attempts at 14-6. She made 13-10 on her third attempt and 14-2 on her first try. Abby Weiler from RA Long WA jumped 13-6 for second.

- In the signature event of the meet, the boys 3,200 meters, Casey Clinger led 11 boys under nine minutes. He broke away midway and finished in a very strong time of 8:50.70 for a US#1 time. (Kaeo Kruse of Kamehameha broke the Hawaii all-time state best in the seeded race, running 9:11.37).

- Michael Norman of Vista Murrieta won a huge showdown with Josephus Lyles of TC Williams in the 400 meters, winning it in a meet record time of 45.51 seconds. Lyles ran 45.94 seconds.

- Noah Lyles of TC Williams VA smashed the Arcadia Invitational record in the 100 meters with a scorching fast time of 10.17 seconds. Then he came back to run 20.48 and crush the meet record in the 200.

- After Hannah DeBalsi from Staples CT took a commanding lead, the final lap saw sophomores Rylee Bowen of Sonoma Academy and Annie Hill of Glacier MT emerge from the chase pack and overtake DeBalsi in the final 200. Bowen ran to the victory in a big PR of 10:13.20, with Hill second in 10:14.14.

- With Destiny Collins running on the anchor, Great Oak CA ran a national-leading time of 11:48.65 to win the distance medley relay. Palos Verdes CA was second in 11:52.45.

- Vista Murrieta CA won the boys 4x100 relay with a time of 40.63 seconds, taking the tape by more than a second ahead of Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks CA).

- With a squad of four juniors, Carson CA won the girls invitational 4x100 relay with 45.81 seconds, good for US#5. Standout Kaelin Roberts, who missed 2015 with an injury, beat CIF champion Hannah Waller of Buchanan CA in a big showdown in the 400 meters, 53.47 to 53.62.

- Connor Dunne of San Clemente CA won the invitational boys mile in 4:09.45, while American Fork UT teammates Patrick Parker (4:09.87) and McKay Johns (4:10.37) went 2-3.

- Lauren Rain Williams of Oaks Christian won the girls 100-meter dash in 11.64 seconds, while U.S. Youth teammate Lynna Irby of Pike IN was second in 11.70. Kaysha Love from Herriman UT won the seeded section with 11.77 seconds. Williams came back in the evening to win the 200 meters in US#1 23.37 seconds, good for No. 5 in meet history. Williams closed the meet by contributing to her team's 4x400 relay to a victory in 3:49.80. She split 54.7.

- Martin Luther King CA won a duel with Davis UT in the boys distance medley relay, taking the title in 10:12.84 to 10:14.88.

- Junior Allie Schadler from Rio Rico AZ won the invitational girls mile with 4:51.24. Right there with her was junior Erica Schroeder from San Marcos CA, who clocked in 4:51.61. 

- Tara Davis of Agoura CA edged Jurnee Woodward of Vacaville in a big showdown in the 100-meter hurdles, 13.80 to 13.87. Woodward came back later to win the 300 hurdles in 41.29 seconds. Davis added victories in the long jump (19-9) and triple jump (41-8).

- Koty Burton from LaQuinta CA won the boys 110-meter hurdle with 13.81 seconds. Jesuit OR’s Julian Body was second in 14.18. Body came back later to win the invitational 300 hurdles in 36.68.

- Austin Tamagno of Brea Olinda won the invitational 800 meters in 1:50.93 for US#2.

- Jacquelyn Hill of Etiwanda CA defeated Cassie Durgy of Huntington Beach CA in the invitational 800 meters, 2:10.00 to 2:10.27.

- Justes Nance of Blair Academy NJ won the boys long jump with 23 feet, 9.25 inches.

- Isaiah Rogers from Campbell GA won the boys shot put with 67 feet, 0.75 inches.

- Elijah Mason from Desert Vista AZ won the boys discus with a toss of 192 feet, 3 inches.

- Elena Bruckner of Valley Christian CA threw 166-3 despite a wet ring and rain to win the discus. She also won the shot put with 51-0.75.

- The Centennial NV girls ran 3:56.44 in the non-elite session of the 4x400 relay.

- Lauren White from Rolesville CA ran 24.48 in the 200 meters and 12.05 in the 100 in the non-elite session.

- Shamaya Flanagan from Quartz Hill CA won the seeded section of the 400 meters in 55.35 seconds.

- Junior Dai’lyn Meriwether of Union WA ran 55.99 in the 400 meters during the afternoon session.

- Keyon Riley of Servite CA ran 48.52 for the fastest time in the 400 meters during the afternoon session.

- Freshman Daniel White from San Juan Hills CA won the Rising Stars boys mile with 4:18.82.

- Senior Xolan Brown of Redlands ran a very strong 1:52.47 in the 800 meters during the afternoon session.

- Ariane Arndt of St. Francis (Sacramento) CA won the afternoon session of the 800 meters with 2:10.46.
