Friday Highlights from Arcadia
- The Great Oak boys became the first ever to break 17 minutes in the 4x1600 relay with 16:55.85. The program that produced its first NXN title in cross country last December bested a 30-year-old 4x1600 record held by McCullough of The Woodlands TX (17:04.7 in 1986) as well as the long-standing 4xMile record of South Eugene OR (17:06.6). The South Eugene record converts to 17:00.2 for 4x1600. "When I saw these guys run their legs, I thought I'm not going to let them down," said anchor Spencer Dodds after Solomon Fountain, Cole Spencer and Isaac Cortes ran the first three legs. - The Davis Senior CA girls won the 4x1600 relay in 20:05.26 for the fourth-fastest time in meet history and U.S. No. 15 all-time, beating in-state rival and defending champion Great Oak by 12 seconds. Fiona O'Keeffe anchored the team with 4:48.8 on her carry after Abigail Fisk, Sofia Castiglioni and Olivia O'Keeffe gave her the lead. - Kiera Marshall, a junior from St. Joseph Notre Dame CA, won the seeded section of the Friday's 3,200s, running 10:41.80. - Joe Simmons from American Fork UT was the fastest out of the night's three open sections of the 3,200 meters, using a big kick on the homestretch to run 9:15.44. Sophomore James Mwaura of Lincoln (Tacoma WA) won the second-fastest race in 9:17.73. - Cathedral CA's boys sprint crew won the 4x200 in 1:27.66 and the 800 sprint medley relay in 1:32.43. - The Los Alamitos CA boys ran a US#1 time and Arcadia meet record 3:26.36 to defend their title in the 1,600 sprint medley relay. - Caice Lanovaz from Los Gatos CA won the girls heptathlon with 4,898 points, edging Dallyssa Huggins from Bill Crothers Secondary School in Ontario, Canada by one point. - Notre Dame CA's boys won the 4x800 relay with 7:53.83. - The girls from Rancho Cucamonga CA won the 800 sprint medley relay in US#1 1:45.68. - Mission Viejo CA won the girls shuttle hurdles relay in 1:04.55. - St. Mary's CA's girls ran 4:06.40 for US#5 in the 1600 sprint medley relay invitational section.
